Weekend Wrap-up - 18 & Under

05/06/08

The Buffalo Storm 18 & Under Team wrapped up their Inaugural Weekend with a trip to TORHS.

The Buffalo Storm 18 & Under Team wrapped up their Inaugural Weekend with a trip to the TORHS Regional Championship at the Amherst Pepsi Center. The team took their first step towards building their identity with a full weekend of games that Head Coach Rich Ineson called “a learning experience that I feel we could build off of and become stronger as a team””. Playing in an 18 & under division with numerous younger players, the Storm team received a valuable lesson in how to compete against some of the top teams in the region; including back-to-back games against an excellent  “Sudden Death” team out of Michigan.

Goaltending proved to be the teams strong point, with Brandon Rogers standing tall between the pipes. Ineson says that “"I was very happy with the Goaltending of Brandon Rogers and how he was able to keep us in every game". Clearly, the team is headed in the right direction with Rogers in goal, as goaltenders can single handedly win games for the guys in front of them.

With only a few practices under their belt, the future of the 18 & under squad looks quite clear under the direction of Ineson. "The future of the 18U program is bright, and with the emergence of the young players like Waley, Wanat, and Laviolete; and the experience of Coyne, Gillen, and Olejniczak, and Usiak I am positive that this program will be successful”. The team will once again get a chance to make some waves in the Inline Hockey world as they head to Burlington, Ontario at the end of the month to compete in the 8th Annual Burlington Wave / Walter Gretzky Cup Qualifier at the end of the month.
